Volunteer Opportunities

Started in 1900, the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. People in more than 2000 locations throughout the Western Hemisphere participate in the CBC each year.
The information collected by thousands of CBC volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used by conservation biologists, environmental planners, and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds.
The CBC in each 24Km diameter Count Circle is planned on a day between December 14 and January 5. Effort for each circle is organized by a Compiler, who is a fellow volunteer (or team of volunteers) at the local level, often supported by a birding club or naturalist organization.
To contribute to bird research in our area, join the Prince Edward Point CBC on Saturday, December 14th. All skill levels from novice to expert are welcomed to this free event.
To register, please contact Dale Smith (doc0013@icloud.com).

OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH PROJECT
The following message is being sent out at the request of the University of Toronto.
Hello all! Our research group at the University of Toronto and Baycrest Hospital is looking for nature-interested folks to contribute to our research. Our research centers around the cognitive benefits of nature-related interests, with previous investigation into birding, and we're looking to expand to other interests such as gardening, hiking, and cycling. If you're interested in getting involved, take part in our current study on our website (www.birdingstudies.com) and provide us with feedback about your own interest (on the contact tab). Our current study focuses on birds, but no knowledge is required to participate - it will provide a sense of how we examine natural interests in ways that could be adapted to other areas. Tell us about how nature investigation has changed the way you see the world in our feedback survey, to help guide our future studies!
